In 2000 Metallica made a big stink about their music being downloaded on Napster, forcing the P2P to change it’s ways permanently, much to the chagrin of millions of people who thought they had a good thing going. Whatever your opinion of P2P’s, you have to admit that it’s ironic for Metallica to come out now and jump on the file sharing bandwagon. Article here.

This leads me to two questions:

1. Will Metallica’s fans forgive them for trying to throw them under the bus only to change their tune a few years later when it becomes trendy; and,

2. Does anyone still care about Metallica?

If there’s anyone out there who still thinks the golden age of the internet has yet to begin, check out this YouTube video:

Basically, you’ve got the music of one of the most brilliant composers in the history of the world, matched up with a song from what may be the most exciting and innovative band of the last 100 years–performed by a virtually unknown independent artist with what I can only label as crystal clear musical vision…and it’s all 100% free.

I can’t tell you how thrilling it is for me to see artists taking back their voice (literally and figuratively) and creative control.

After years of having our entertainment spoon-fed to us by marketing gurus that are more interested in profit than art, we have a medium where genius is finally being recognized and celebrated again.

VIVA LA YOUTUBE!
